If you're looking for a client-centered recovery facility, this is your place! Having just completed a month's stay at Alo House, I can't say enough about their client-centered approach. I was their first client after last month's fires in Malibu which forced their relocation to alternative facilities in West Los Angeles. From my pick-up at LAX by the delightful Mel, I never once felt that Alo was cutting corners on client well-being and needs -- all while they were literally 'rising from the ashes' to re-establish their operations in new premises. They did this with a calm, collected and professional demeanour and a constant focus on client satisfaction. Every request is met with their full attention -- from switching out a mattress for better sleep comfort to issues around diet preferences to providing insight into their theraptic process to requests for certain common areas to be designated non-smoking. Alo provided transport to go outside the facility. I was particularly interested in having yoga as a central piece of my recovery journey, so Alo arranged private instruction for me. Alo's staff clearly enjoy their work and have respect for the company. Many have worked at other recovery centers and, almost without exception, claim that Alo is the best they have encountered so far. Although perhaps not the center-piece of one's recovery, special mention must be made of the quality of the food served at Alo. Chefs Jorge and David never ceased to amaze with the quality of food. It is prepared fresh, beautifully presented and made from the best quality ingredients. The menus are varied and balanced. I kept joking that they should team up with Weight Watchers because one could be tempted to 'go to town' on the food. I was able to maintain a well-balanced and nutritious diet during the entirety of my stay at Alo. The accommodations are comfortable and well maintained by the charming and friendly dynamic duo of Oli and Gina. Each room is a large screen tv -- great for binge-watching HBO during downtime -- and common areas are nicely appointed and cosy. The therapists/case managers are skilled professionals with a high level of commitment and professionalism. My case manager, Jodi, and primary therapist, Rudy, were fully commited to my well-being and made that abundantly clear with each interaction. All boundaries of confidentiality are maintained. They do their best to run productive groups despite a mixed cohort of clients with varying levels of commitment and participation. Staff could strive to institute more rigour and discipline for ensuring client participation, although it is understandable when this is not doable given that each client is on their own path to recovery and has their own level of commitment to the process. The medical oversight is top-notch. Drs. Stanley, Benya and Sagan and RN Missy are commited professionals with a personable approach. The frequency of consultations is high and medical staff are available whenever needed, even when not on-site. Alo maintains strict protocols and is completely on top of client medical treatment. I loved Bob Forrest's talks on Tuesday evenings. Bob is engaging, clear, witty and personable. A great asset to Alo. Owners Evan and Jared are also very personable and have a keen interest in hearing from clients in order to make the Alo experience as beneficial and rich as it can be. They have had a lot on their plates as a result of the Malibu fires. I never once saw them looking stressed out or had the impression that their focus was anything other than the well-being and comfort of clients. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the great Shift Leads and Residential Advisors (RAs) who literally keep it all happening 24/7. Finally, I loved my two horse 'vision rides' in the Will Rogers State Park with the amazing and kind Corey. What I have taken from my month at Alo is what I consider to be the fundamentals of well-being: (i) good sleep; (ii) good diet; and (iii) good exercise. It doesn't get more basic than that. I thank Alo for helping me find those again.
Alo House uses an approach that provides for their clients a safe and beautiful space with an amazing and talented staff, which then creates the opportunity for them to learn, explore, and most importantly, heal. I've found over the 25+ years working in this field, that this type of approach is so much more successful than "traditional" treatment approaches, in helping someone achieve internally-motivated, long-term sobriety and begin to build a new life with meaning and purpose. Who the heck wouldn't choose that once they begin to believe they can and have the setting and the guidance to do just that. I'm so grateful to the owners and staff of Alo House Recovery Centers for their genuine commitment to those who need our help in finding their way back to themselves and their loved ones.
I’ve been working in recovery for 9 years now and have seen tons of treatment centers thrive and tons fall. Alo is one treatment center that is always thriving due to the amount of passion the staff members have in helping their clients succeed in their sobriety. I’ve met multiple people who’ve gone through Alo House’s program and have had life changing experiences. These people are some of the most amazing people I know today. Whatever Alo is doing... keep it up!
Here's the thing about recovery: you can see through the bullsh*t. The staff at Alo House Recovery really care. Even when I was at a point in my life when I didn't care about myself, I had a support system of people behind me who really wanted me to succeed. Alo House is more than just a treatment center, it's a community of smart, compassionate, authentic people. Thank you Alo House!
As a clinician, my experience working with Alo House has been outstanding. I have referred several clients there for treatment and have been impressed by their clinical sophistication, individualized client care, and team centered approach. In a time of widespread corruption in the substance abuse treatment industry, Alo House stands out as an ethical program that is truly committed to their client's care.
Been on a journey for a clean and sober life for over 20 years. Alo and the superb staff and atmosphere is hands down the best I have encountered in my path to a sober life. From first contact with Alo I could sense a difference in their approach to recovery. I felt like I was valued as a person and I was treated with the utmost respect. Being intoxicating over the phone interview process, the staff never judged me, instead showed compassion. Upon arrival in California the driver was patient and professional as were all the case managers and therapists. The medical staff is bar none the best group of professionals I have encountered. I am sober 133 as I writing this review and it is unbelievable that I am still. clean and sober after leaving Alo. If you tried over and over to get your life back and other avenues have failed give Alo a call and begin to get your life back. Alo is hope.
ALO House Recovery is by far in a league of its own. The caring and compassionate staff. The wonderful and prestige clinical team. The owners are very down to earth, caring individuals. The top of the line chefs, beautiful homes, and one of a kind sceneries. I highly recommend ALO house for anyone struggling or who has a loved one that needs treatment.
This is the best place I’ve ever encountered on my quest for recovery. Great staff and I’m doing better than ever. Thank you Alo
I’ve been sober for over ten months. I’m gainfully employed and a productive member of society. I spend my free time either creatively or helping other people. I have strong relationships with family and friends. My word means something now. I get places on time. I clean up after myself. When I interact with police, I’m not concerned and neither are they. I’m rarely angry and, in fact, often laughing….Anybody who knows me very well could tell you that this is crazy, impossible even, and yet ALL true. I owe this to ALO House Recovery Centers and, in particular, Bob Forrest. I’ve lived at their sober living in the Hollywood Hills for about a year. Almost all the residents I’ve met here, I now consider close friends. The Residential Advisers are compassionate, knowledgeable, and ethical. The owners, in-take staff, and case managers do not just see dollar signs when you walk in. I came here with nothing. They would’ve had to been hallucinating for that to be true in my case. If you or a loved one is struggling with alcoholism or addiction, I would recommend contacting ALO. It was, hands down, the best decision I made in a long time.
Alo Recovery Centers provides the highest standard of ethical, compassionate care. Evan Haines and Jared Valentine, the founders, have staffed their programs with integral professionals of whom I hold in the highest regard. From the admissions process, throughout all levels of care, to a client’s discharge; as a professional in this field, I value the ethics and dedication they hold not only to clients care but also to the outside professionals involved in bringing a client to their program. It is refreshing to trust and know that each client referred will receive compassionate care, individualized to their specific needs and presentations, community, and foster a skillset to prepare him/her for their ongoing journey to sustain a life of recovery. To the Alo Recovery Team, I thank you for your continued excellence in service to those in need!
I have worked with Alo House Recovery Centers for many years. They have helped numerous clients of mine, and the staff there have been so passionate and dedicated. It is so nice to have a facility that is a one stop shop for client needed Detox, Residential, and Aftercare. If you are looking for a facility that understands the whole client, and can provide every level of care, this is the place to go! Wish I could give more than 5 stars.
I would recommend Alo House to any loved ones who are looking to have a positive and informative treatment stay. Clinicians and case managers were well prepared and all staff members were kind and compassionate.
My experience with Alo House is that the staff members are a team and during times of crisis, they come together very easily to help out the most important person- The Client. I have had the opportunity to see first hand the interactions between clients and staff members (RA's, Therapist, Case Managers, Shift Leads, Admissions, HR etc..) and regardless of the position held, the staff members interact with a genuine concern for the clients. They key is making connections and building a relationship with the client so they can feel comfortable and be open to all that Alo has to offer. I would recommend Alo for anyone who needs help with a substance abuse problem.
Wonderful center with an incredibly caring staff. I cannot believe their compassion and hard work. 1 year sober thanks to them!
Alo House changed my life. I came out to Malibu for treatment from NYC not knowing what to expect and not knowing if it would actually help me. Well, Alo House changed my perspective on how to live my life. After living there for 7 months, it felt like home. The work I did there was work I will be eternally grateful for. The staff at Alo House care so deeply about each client and make you feel so safe and secure in your recovery. Yesterday I had 1 year sober- an achievement I didn't think could be possible. I wouldn't have reached 1 year without the help from this incredible facility. I still consider it a home and HIGHLY recommend sending yourself or any loved ones. A lifetime of gratitude to everyone at Alo House. ❤️
Alo House Recovery Center has a unique community of people with personal life experience in recovery. The people I was surrounded by had the same desire to stop the self-destruction eating away at our core. Alo House helped promote a safe environment for me to discover the the true essence of myself without substances. I enjoyed being in every group/session I was a part of because there wasn't a single group I didn't learn from! I was able to find my way through my dedication to following suggestions and through discovering the spiritual aspects of life that I would never have attempted in my disease. When I first came to Alo House Recovery Center, I could definitely say I had hit my breaking point. I had nothing left to lose on my journey to recovery. My daily drinking habits led me to believe I was not going to live a life without alcohol and other drugs. Nothing more could result from my actions, until I came to Alo House. I was on the brink of wishing my life had ended as the result of one of several DUI convictions. My life, in case you didn't already get it, was officially over. I immediately decided that this was "it." I would finally have the courage to acknowledge that I had been defeated by alcoholism, and that I needed to ask for help. My mother searched and searched for different avenues of treatment until she came across the Alo House website. She said, "this is where I think you should go." Again, with nothing to lose, I reluctantly picked up the phone and spoke with Soraya. She was always really great at getting back to me and getting me to the facility. I was picked up at the airport by Jaymee, the spiritual adviser. The intense therapuetic and spiritual practices Alo House introduced to me help me stay sober and continue my sobriety. Alo House helped me mentally, physically, and emotionally throughout the court case that lead me to my feeling of defeat. I learned that I wouldn't get out of my conviction, but I would be offered alternative sentencing that was far from the usual as the result of my diligence to stick with the Alo House program. I learned that it is most definitely possible to keep moving forward, even when there is something trying to pull me back. I continue to stay in touch with the Alo House Recovery Center through their Alumni Program. I am so grateful for Alo House and for its commitment to helping others. There isn't anything I wouldn't do to give back or pay forward the way they paid it forward for me. Thank you Alo House.
I wish I could say more to describe how far they went to help me, or how far they've gone to help other people I've seen struggling. Compassion can't be taught, and somehow every staff member seems to be seasoned in the art of compassion and healing. I've worked in the recovery community and this is the only place I'd feel comfortable recommending to anybody.
I'm a parent, and my son had been to at least five treatment centers before a friend recommended (and took him to!) Acadia Malibu. I felt like my son, even more than my husband and me, had given up hope. With crossed fingers, I can now say that he's approaching a year sober and has a job (in recovery) that he loves. Much of his progress is due to the commitment, friendship, and optimism of owners Jared and Evan, who support their attendees as friends. They also pick their staff with great care and attention. The people at Acadia Malibu became my son's friends, supporters, and family in recovery. I will be eternally grateful.
